Former Boardman swimmers excel in college


Former Boardman High School and current Westminster College swimmers Mark Brooks and Mike Barringer recently won events at the Grove City Invitational Feb. 17-20.

Brooks won the 100 backstroke in a time of 52.76 and swam a NCAA B cut time of 52.01 in the preliminary. He took third in the 50 freestyle (21.34) and third in the 200 backstroke (1:56.30).

Barringer won the 100 butterfly with a time of 50.74, which was also a NCAA B cut time. He came in third in the 100 freestyle (47.24) and fourth in the 50 freestyle (21.55).

Brooks and Barringer were on the second-place 400 medley relay, second-place 400 freestyle relay, second place in the 200 freestyle relay and third place in the 800 freestyle relay. They were also selected to the President’s Athletic Conference All-Conference First Team.

Barringer was selected twice during the season as the conference’s Swimmer of the Week.
