Ebony Lifeline Support Group, Inc. and the YAA/Youngstown Super STARS Afterschool program will sponsor “Healthy, Fit and Fun Families,” a free Minority Health Month event, from 5 to 7 p.m. April 5 at Taft Elementary School, 730 E. Avondale Ave., and at Williamson Elementary School, 58 Williamson Ave. Nutrition, exercise, drug- and bullying- prevention strategies will be featured. Superior orchestras

All three participating ensembles from the Boardman Orchestras earned Superior (I) ratings at the Ohio Music Education Association State Orchestra Adjudicated Event on Feb. 26.

The 120-member Boardman Symphony Orchestra has the longest string of unbroken Superior ratings, since 1973, of any orchestra in Ohio, said orchestra director Frank Dispenza.

The other two ensembles that brought home awards were the 50-member Boardman Classical Orchestra and the 41-member Boardman Chamber Orchestra.

Board gets laptops

The board of education has received 50 Dell laptops, which the district applied for from the Ohio Bureau of Workers’ Compensation.

The bureau in Columbus offered them for free to public entities across the state.

Tech coordinator Pam Ross, who also teaches computer classes, will re-format them for their use for teachers and students. The computers will replace older district models. Other tech donations recently accepted include six additional Dell computers from Michelle White of Brilex Industries Inc. of Youngstown and another Dell computer from Cathy Woods, a guidance counselor.

The Diocese of Youngstown is accepting applications for principal of Holy Family School, Poland. The preschool-through- eighth-grade program has a student enrollment of 323 students, 17 full-time teachers, three part-time teachers including art, music, physical education, media coordinator, five pre-kindergarten teachers, speech and hearing pathologist, nurse and inclusion teacher.

The school is fully recognized by the state and state standards are met through full accreditation from the Ohio Catholic School Accrediting Association. The successful candidate must be a practicing Roman Catholic, have attained or be in the process of attaining the academic equivalent of a master’s degree. Choffin hosts transition fair

Choffin Career and Technical Center will offer current Choffin, Chaney and East seniors and their parents an opportunity to meet with two and four-year colleges and universities, the military, career and technical schools, employment agencies and more April 7.

The Transition Fair will be from 12:45-2:45 p.m. at Choffin, 200 E. Wood St. Attendees can obtain post secondary and career information and gain experience talking to employment agencies.
