YOUNGSTOWN

Youngstown State University police are looking for the man who robbed an individual in a campus parking deck Friday morning.

According to police, the male victim was sitting in his car in a parking deck on Lincoln Avenue just after 8 a.m. when he was approached by a man in his early 20s, wearing dark clothes and carrying a gun. The thief demanded money.

The victim handed over $5 and a cellphone. The thief ran off.

YSU police are encouraging those on and around campus to keep car doors locked and report to them any suspicious people.

Firing upheld

YOUNGSTOWN

A three-judge panel of the 7th District Court of Appeals has unanimously upheld the dismissal of Richard Malagisi’s appeal of his termination as Mahoning County facilities management director.

Saying they weren’t satisfied with his job performance, the county commissioners fired Malagisi on Sept. 15, 2005. Malagisi appealed his termination to the State Personnel Board of Review on Oct. 21, 2005, but the personnel board dismissed the appeal, saying Malagisi missed his 30-day deadline to appeal.

Magistrate Dennis J. Sarisky and Judge Maureen A. Sweeney of Mahoning County Common Pleas Court affirmed the personnel board’s dismissal. The appeals court upheld the common-pleas court ruling earlier this week.

Solicitation report

BOARDMAN

A 26-year-old woman told police that an employee at Spartan Auto Sales on Western Reserve Road solicited her for sex while she was in the store inquiring about purchasing a vehicle Thursday evening, according to reports.

Police said the woman believed the man was serious in his offer.

Michael Ellinos, co-owner, responded: “It would be highly unlikely that anything like that would happen, as it is just me and my partner that work here. We do have other employees that work here, but they work in the back and do not come in contact with customers. And even if they did, that’s not how they are. I cannot imagine that this is true.”
