Israeli/Bedouin culture will be explored at the J

YOUNGSTOWN

The Jewish Community Center, in partnership with El Al Airlines, will present a dinner and evening of Israeli/Bedouin exotic culture April 6 at the J, 505 Gypsy Lane.

An authentic Bedouin dinner is set for 5:45 p.m., and the Youngstown premiere of “Voices From El-Sayed,” featuring a discussion and dessert reception with award-winning Israeli filmmaker Oded “Adomi” Leshem, will begin at 7 p.m.

“Voices” chronicles Bedouin life in the Negev village of El-Sayed, which is home to the largest percentage of deaf people in the world.

One father’s decision to employ modern technology to change his deaf son’s fate has evoked conflict in the village between the older, exotic customs and the conveniences of modern life. Hear from the filmmaker, who will give his first-hand account of the story.

The cost of the dinner is $18, but the dessert reception and movie presentation are free. Reservations, which are required for both programs, can be made by calling the JCC bursar at 330-746-3251, ext. 195, or by e-mailing bursar@jccyoungstown.org. For more information call Or Bass or Noam Weinstain at the above number, ext. 159, or e-mail noam@jewishyoungstown.org.
