Break-in at old Austintown Middle School

AUSTINTOWN

Austintown police arrested a man after a breaking and entering at the old Austintown Middle School building at 5800 Mahoning Ave.

Anthony Geraci Jr., 39, of Youngstown is charged with breaking and entering using criminal tools Tuesday. He’s in Mahoning County jail on a $6,500 bond.

An officer noticed Geraci park a vehicle at the side of the lot and walk toward the stadium. A sergeant observed the overhead door was open behind the bleachers. There were several tools, spools of wire and a heating duct near the door that seemed ready to be removed.

According to reports, the sergeant found Geraci hiding in a corner of an adjoining room where some copper wire was missing.

Superintendent Vince Colaluca said the building has been under surveillance since the district stopped using it in 2007. He said there is nothing of value inside and believes this is the third time it has been broken into.
