POLICE CALLS
A summary of recent criminal activity in Hubbard, Girard and Liberty:
HUBBARD
March 18
Unauthorized use of a vehicle: A township man said his former girlfriend took but never returned his car.
Fraud: An employee of First National Bank, 39 W. Liberty St., reported someone was passing bad money orders.
Assault: A West Liberty Street woman told authorities her daughter had been assaulted on the way home from school.
March 19
Assault: A woman alleged her boyfriend assaulted her at a West Liberty Street business.
March 20
Theft of services: A woman called police after seeing a man tampering with a gas-shutoff box in the 300 block of West Liberty Street.
March 21
Criminal damaging: Police detained four men after a Ford F-150 truck drove through a front yard in the 600 block of Meadowland Drive. No charges had been filed at the time of the report, however.
Theft: Various items were removed from a vehicle in the 800 block of West Liberty Street.
GIRARD
March 18
Burglary: To a residence near U.S. Route 422 through a basement window. A dog was missing.
Harassment: An East Second Street woman told police disturbing text messages had been sent to her 11-year-old daughter.
Harassment: A Maple Avenue man reported his former girlfriend sent and made such text messages and calls.
March 19
Criminal damaging: A Morris Avenue man reported damage to his wife’s vehicle.
Theft/harassment: A woman told officers her former boyfriend, of Elruth Drive, cashed her paycheck without consent. The man said she made unwanted calls to him.
Unauthorized use of a vehicle: A Church Hill Road man said another man borrowed but failed to return his 1998 Pontiac sedan.
Unauthorized use of a vehicle: An East Kline Street woman reported two people took her Acura vehicle without permission.
Criminal mischief: A Morris Avenue man noticed a shattered screen-door window. Damage was estimated at $100.
March 22
Trespassing: A Browns Court woman said two people barged into her residence and demanded keys to a truck.
Theft: Medications and a change purse were removed from a vehicle near East Howard and Stewart streets.
Theft: Two hundred feet of copper wiring was stolen in the 1400 block of South State Street.
March 23
Theft: Twelve compact discs were taken from a car in the 1100 block of North Highland Avenue.
LIBERTY
March 16
Theft: A $275 electric stove was stolen from a residence in the 3000 block of North Gate Road.
Theft: Two men were detained after four wheel caps were stolen from Cleveland Auto Wrecking Inc., 2700 Youngstown-Hubbard Road.
March 17
Recovered property: A Barth Lane woman found two power tools in her front yard and turned them over to police.
Theft: A worker for Aaron’s Sales & Lease, 3163 Belmont Ave., told police a man, 26, failed to make monthly payments on a 42-inch TV he had rented, and that the man’s girlfriend apparently pawned the set.
Arrest: Police investigated a shoplifting situation at Walmart, 200 Goldie Road, where they arrested 47-year-old Henry A. Garner, 3531 Hillman St., Youngstown, on a felony parole-violation charge.
Fraud: A Pinecrest Road man reported he provided personal information to an Internet site that he apparently mistook for that of his bank account.
Theft: A tractor, various tools and two gas cans were among property stolen from a wooded area in the 1300 block of Naylor-Lloyd Road.
Possible theft: A vehicle’s license plate was lost or stolen in the 1400 block of Townsend Avenue.
March 19
Theft: Stacy A. Copenhaver, 40, of 5885 Mount Everett Road, Hubbard, was given a summons after five bags of candy were stolen from Dollar General, 4425 Logan Way.
Theft: A woman stole four boxes of diapers from Big Lots, 3495 Belmont Ave.
March 20
Arrest: Clifford H. West, 49, of 2306 Hamilton Ave., Poland, was arrested at the Mahoning County Jail on a township warrant.
Arrest: A traffic stop near Gypsy Lane resulted in 35-year-old Julie A. Nagle’s arrest. Nagle, of 2828 Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd., Youngstown, was wanted on a felony warrant and also was charged with possession of a dangerous drug when, police said, three loose tablets were in a cigarette pack.
Arrest: Struthers police handed 36-year-old Roxanne A. Holby, 5214 Fifth St., Poland, to township authorities. She was wanted on a warrant.
March 21
Menacing: A Pinecrest Road woman reported getting numerous unwanted and obscene calls.
Theft by deception/threats: An elderly Warner Road man told police a caller, claiming the man won a car and $2 million, instructed him to send increasing sums of money to California and Chicago, then threatened to kill the accuser when he discovered it was a scam.
Theft: A water tank, a furnace and an air-conditioning unit were removed from a home in the 1500 block of Millicent Avenue that had been foreclosed.
Menacing: A worker in a Belmont Avenue fast-food restaurant’s drive-through told police an irate customer threw his food at the employee after receiving the wrong order. The customer then entered the eatery, where he yelled obscenities and made threats, a report said.
March 22
Counterfeit: A man passed a phony $10 bill at Conroy’s Xpress, 3990 Belmont Ave.
Theft by deception: A Walmart employee reported a man and a woman, both of Sharon, Pa., bought large quantities of baby formula with altered coupons.
