Staff report

YOUNGSTOWN

The documentary film “Scrappers!” will be screened at 7 p.m. Sunday at the Lemon Grove Caf , 122 W. Federal St., downtown.

A discussion with co-directors Brian Ashby and Ben Kolak will follow.

“Scrappers” is a portrait of two scrap-metal scavengers in Chicago: one an undocumented Honduran immigrant and the other an elderly public-housing resident. The film, shot over a three-year period, follows the men through the rise of scrap-metal prices to its highest ever in 2007, to the complete collapse of the market in 2008.

National film critic Roger Ebert named “Scrappers” one of his Best Documentaries of 2010 and gave the film a review of 3.5 stars. “Scrappers” premiered at the 2010 Chicago Underground Film Festival, where it won Best Documentary Feature and the Audience Award. The directors are now touring the country to have screenings.
