Police: Mom torched infant’s body in Nevada

SPARKS, Nev. (AP) — Police in Nevada say a 26-year-old mother torched the body of her newborn daughter, and left the corpse in a field where it was found by a woman walking her dog.

Washoe County Jail records show Suceli Margarita Ardon was held today on $100,000 bail pending a court appearance on arson and destroying evidence charges.

Sparks police say an autopsy shows the infant was dead before the body was set afire.

It’s not immediately clear how the infant died or if Ardon has a lawyer.

She told police the baby had health problems since birth.

Police say the baby had a surgical opening for a feeding tube, and that helped lead investigators to Ardon.

Lt. Tom Miller told reporters the body was found Monday afternoon in Spanish Springs.
