Bomb threats made against YSU Tuesday

YOUNGSTOWN

Police said a 27-year-old Boardman woman called in bomb threats against Youngstown State University to local media Tuesday.

Toya Scott of Boardman was arrested Tuesday and charged with inducing panic, YSU police said. Officers said additional charges could be filed when Scott appears in municipal court today.

Adopt a pet Saturday, get free tax service

On Saturday, the Liberty Tax Service office will have an adoption event from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at 90 Boardman-Poland Road to support Angels for Animals. “Make a Difference in March” will have family fun, free food and animals ready for adoption. To thank the community for supporting Angels For Animals, anyone who adopts a dog or cat from the event will receive free tax preparation through April 5.

Roadway cleanup

The Youngstown Litter Control and Recycling Program is looking for volunteers to help clean the on/off ramps and local and state roadways in Mahoning County beginning at 9 a.m. Saturday.

Gas-drilling program

The township and schools will present “Gasland,” an award-winning documentary by Josh Fox on gas drilling at 5:30 p.m. March 31 at Liberty High School auditorium, 1 Leopard Lane.

Irvin Mesmer, a farmer for 50 years in Bainbridge, Ohio, will talk about what happened to his well-water after fracking near his property.

Family Dollar theft

Police are investigating a break-in at Family Dollar store on Youngstown-Poland Road.

Police said the break-in happened sometime overnight Monday. Someone cut a hole in the building wall and got into the back office.

An ATM in the store was damaged and a large amount of cash was taken, police said. They did not specify an amount.

Gas smell traced

Residents and business owners on the north end of Market Street reported the smell of gas Tuesday.

At 10:35 a.m., Boardman fire department received the first call about the smell, and the source was identified as gas discarded by a mechanic at Luc’s Auto Services, 4100 Market St., who was working on a fuel tank, firefighters said.

Mahoning County sanitary engineers arrived to clean and flush the sanitary drains, and no evacuations took place, according to reports.
