how to apply

The Peace Corps seeks applicants with a combination of education, experience, leadership skills and commitment to service. Peace Corps is now filling programs departing into 2012. Generally, applicants are encouraged to plan ahead and apply nine months to a year in advance of their target departure date.

Peace Corps Volunteers work in six main program areas: education and English teaching; public health; business development and information and communication technology; agriculture; environment; and youth and community development. The type of work a volunteer does ultimately is determined by the needs of a host country and the potential of a volunteer to contribute to those needs and to the Peace Corps’ mission. Volunteers become well integrated into their local community, treated as extended family members and valued as contributors to development.

Today’s Peace Corps addresses global needs such as education reconstruction, HIV/AIDS and malaria prevention, food security, clean- water accessibility, technology access, environmental conservation and climate change.

Peace Corps volunteers must be U.S. citizens and at least 18 years of age, but there is no upper age limit to serve. Peace Corps service is a 27-month commitment, including three months of comprehensive culture, language, program, and safety and security training.
