A Youngstown police officer used a stun gun on a 17-year-old at Chaney High School after repeated attempts to calm the boy.

Teachers and the principal had tried without success to calm the teen who was “pacing around in an aggressive mode yelling and using abusive language,” according to police reports.

The officer also tried to calm the boy without results then informed him he was under arrest for disorderly conduct. The boy refused to put his hands behind his back after several commands from the officer, telling him, “You can’t arrest me.”

The officer then pulled out his department-issued stun gun and discharged it. The prongs stuck into the boy’s back, and he fell to the floor.

The officer then handcuffed him, and the boy continued his rant and threatened the officer on the way to the security office. The officer took the stun gun out again, this time contact-stunning the boy. That time, the prongs fell to the ground.

At the security office, two more officers had to secure the boy in a chair when he would not stop jumping and screaming.

Officers charged the 17-year-old with disorderly conduct in the vicinity of a school, using abusive language toward a teacher and staff, menacing and resisting arrest.

The boy was booked at the Mahoning County Juvenile Justice Center, but the principal and teacher did not want to press charges.
