Campbell man indicted in Saturday murder

YOUNGSTOWN — A Mahoning County grand jury has indicted Jerry Smith Sr., 53, of Tremble Avenue, Campbell, in Saturday’s fatal shooting of Tyler Simpson with a firearm specification.

The grand jury also indicted Smith on Thursday on a tampering-with-evidence charge referring to concealment or removal of the firearm in that case.

If convicted, Smith faces a 15-years-to-life prison sentence on the murder charge, a mandatory three consecutive years for the firearm specification, and one to five years on the tampering with evidence charge.

Smith was jailed under $750,000 bond after he surrendered to police Monday morning.
