Feel a shake? We had a quake!


YOUNGSTOWN

The first earthquake centered in Youngstown and the Mahoning Valley happened earlier today, according to the Ohio Seismic Organization.

Dr. Michael Hansen of the organization said an earthquake of a magnitude 2.6 occurred around 6:53 this morning and was centered about a half-mile north of state Route 193 on the city’s west side.

It was picked up by the seismograph at Youngstown State University.

Hansen said there was no reports of damage and said people would have felt a sharp jolt.

Mahoning County offices, which closed for the day following an magnitude 5.5 earthquake in Canada last June, didn’t report any closings today.
