OSHP seizes 188 pounds of suspected marijuana on turnpike stop

LORAIN — A Colorado man faces felony drug charges after Ohio State Highway Patrol troopers seized 188 pounds of suspected marijuana, valued at nearly $1 million, during a traffic stop Tuesday in Lorain County.

According to the press release, troopers stopped a 2011 GMC Yukon for a marked lanes violation, eastbound on the Ohio Turnpike, near milepost 143, at about 9:57 a.m. Troopers observed criminal indicators and a patrol drug-sniffing dog alerted to the vehicle. A probable cause search revealed four U-Haul boxes, containing the suspected drug.

The driver, John Davis, 51, of Denver, was charged with possession of marijuana and aggravated trafficking of marijuana, both second-degree felonies.

The suspect was incarcerated in Lorain County Jail. If convicted, he could face up to 16 years in prison and a $30,000 fine.
