KISSIMMEE, Fla.
Sophomore Hana Somogyi tossed a four-hit complete game and did not allow an earned run in the Youngstown State University softball team’s 5-1 win over Hartford on Monday at the Rebel Games.
Also Monday, the Penguins defeated Rider, 3-2, in 10 innings.
Somogyi struck out five and improved to 3-2 while the Penguins pushed their overall mark to 11-5.
Senior Kristina Rendle went 2-for-2 with a triple and two runs scored while senior Kim Klonowski and junior Amanda Palmore each doubled and singled to lead the Penguins’s nine-hit attack.
The Penguins scored a run in the first, second and fourth and scored two unearned runs in the top of the sixth to seal the game.
For the second straight day, the Penguins went into extra innings but were able to pull out the 3-2 victory over Rider.
Haley Thomas’s sacrifice fly in the bottom of the 10th inning plated junior Kristen Philen with the winning run.
In the eighth inning, Rider took a 2-1 lead in the top half of the frame. The Penguins knotted the game at 2-2 when Vicky Rumph singled up the middle.
The Penguins got on the board first in the bottom of the third when junior Jordan Ingalls singled through the left side to score Thomas, who singled.
Rider quickly tied the game in the top half of the fourth.
Freshman Casey Crozier picked up her seventh win, tossing a complete game with five strikeouts.
