Howland’s Williams named to Ohio’s 2nd team

Howland junior Taylor Williams has received second team honors in the Associated Press All-Ohio girls basketball team for Division I released on Monday.
A 6-foot-3 player, Williams averaged 19 points for the Tigers (21-2).
Kourtney Williams received Special Mention honors for Warren Harding.
Three other Mahoning Valley players received Honorable Mention: Howland’s Erika Nites, Harding’s Anita Brown and Canfield’s Sabrina Mangapora.
Howland and Harding advanced to thee district semifinals of the Warrensville Heights tournament.
Canton McKinley coach Pam Davis, a graduate of Fitch High, was one of three coaches selected as Coach of the Year. The others were Reynoldsburg’s Jack Purtell and Cincinnati Princeton’s Jill Phillips.
McKinley’s Ameryst Alston, who averaged 21 points per game, was selected as the Division I Player of the Year.
In Division II, East Liverpool’s Mallory Waggle was selected to the Special Mention list.
Liberty’s Mindy Dykes and Vakelya Merriweather were two of the five Valley players were named to the Honorable Mention list.
The others are Struthers’ Katelyn Ardale, West Branch’s Brandi Snyder and Poland’s Maura Bobby.
Ardale’s Wildcats won the district tournament at Fitch High. In the regional semifinal at Barberton High, Struthers lost to Mentor Lake Catholic, 50-43.
Minerva’s Chelsie Butler and Cincinnati Wyoming’s Nikki McKee shared Div. II Player of the Year honors.
Napoleon’s Rod Hersha and Cambridge’s Dan Linscott were named Coaches of the Year.
