Taking apprenticeship program applications

The Plumbers and Pipe-fitters of Mahoning Valley Joint Apprenticeship Committee will accept applications for its plumber, pipefitter and refrigeration apprenticeship programs from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. March 28 through April 1 and April 4-8.

Apply at the committee office, 493 Bev Road, Building 3.

Applicants must be at least 18 years old and a resident of Mahoning, Trumbull or Columbiana counties.

Bring a photo-identification card, transcript of grades and high school diploma — or proof of equivalent education. There is a $10 fee to apply for the program.

Nursing scholarships

Akron

Cambridge Home Health Care is offering four $1,000 scholarships for students in nursing programs.

Applicants must have two years of recent experience as a home-health aide, nurse’s aide or licensed practical nurse and must be a resident of Ohio or of Butler, Lawrence or Mercer counties in Pennsylvania.

Applicants are required to submit two written recommendations from former and current employers. The deadline is May 15.

Autism benefit

The 2011 Mahoning Valley Pizza Cook-off will be from 4 to 7 p.m. March 27 at Mr. Anthony’s.

At the event, pizza restaurants from across the Valley will compete for the title of Maestro di Cucina as well as the public vote for the People’s Choice Award.

Proceeds from the cook-off will go to the Potential Development Program/School of Autism. The school offers preschool and grade-school education for local children with autism and other special needs.

Tickets are $10. The admission price includes two slices of pizza and a side salad.

Additional pizza slices will be available, as will a cash bar.

Family Financial Fair

Youngstown

The Mahoning County Financial Stability Partnership will host the Family Financial Fair from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. April 30 at the Choffin Career Center, 200 East Wood St.

The free event will help people use the local resources available for assistance.

Workshop offered

North Canton

MAGNET and WIRE-Net, two Northeast Ohio organizations that focus on growth in manufacturing, are hosting a workshop for companies interested in entering new marketplaces.

The New Markets Initiative will begin at 8 p.m. March 29 at the Gateway Event & Conference Center in North Canton.
