A.O.H. and L.A.O.H. pick Irish Man, Woman of Year

Ancient Order of Hibernians and Ladies Ancient Order of Hibernians have selected the Irish Man and Woman of the Year, Timothy G. Welsh and Eileen E. Duffy.

The two will participate in the St. Patrick’s Day Parade today and will be honored guests at the A.O.H. St. Patrick’s Day Luncheon on March 17. The luncheon will take place at noon at St. Patrick Church, Oak Hill Avenue, Youngstown, following 10:30 a.m. Mass.

Welsh, born in Youngstown, is a graduate of Boardman High School, Youngstown State University and the C. Blake McDowell School of Law at the University of Akron.

He practiced private law from 1986 until 2004, when he was appointed magistrate of Mahoning County Common Pleas Court, General Division. Since 2006, he has served as magistrate exclusively in the courtroom of Judge R. Scott Krichbaum.

Welsh is a Fourth Degree member and current vice president of the Ancient Order of Hibernians, Division 6, where he has also served as trustee and standing committee chairman. He serves on the board of directors of the Irish Cultural Center of the Mahoning Valley, Inc.

A member of St. Charles Church, Boardman, Welsh serves as a cantor and choir member and is a member of the Worship Commission.

Duffy was born and raised in Youngstown. After attending Cardinal Mooney High School, she studied art history and religion at YSU and at Kent State University. She is a member of St. Charles Church.

She works in the advertising and marketing field and holds a U.S. design patent.

As a member of L.A.O.H., Duffy has served on numerous committees and assisted with many events to foster the preservation of her Irish heritage. She is serving her second two-year term as historian and coordinates the annual national Irish History Writing contest in Mahoning County.

Duffy received her L.A.O.H. major degrees in 2005 and that same year served as publicity chairwoman for the 75th Biennial A.O.H. and L.A.O.H. Ohio State Convention.
