Halfhill having excellent season

University of Chicago junior guard Bryanne Halfhill (Canfield) has been selected to the 2010-11 All-University Athletic Association women’s basketball team as a second-team pick.

Halfhill was the only player in the UAA during the regular season to rank among the league’s top-eight in scoring, rebounding, and assists. She ranked third in the conference in assists (4.6), sixth in rebounding (6.4), and seventh in scoring (12.9) in addition to leading the Association in three-point field goals (2.2) and steals (2.8).

Halfhill helped lead Chicago (24-3) to the UAA regular season championship and an NCAA Division III tournament Sweet 16 appearance.

Bowl Over Cancer is April 2

A “Bowl Over Cancer” fundraiser will be April 2 at Arrowhead Lanes.

The 9-pin no-tap event includes three games, prizes, a 50-50 raffle and silent auction beginning at 9 p.m. Contact Jerry 330-482-3493 or Donna 330-770-0808. Proceeds benefit “Donna’s Dream Team” in the Boardman Cancer Relay for Life, May 13-14.

Mill Creek Classic draws 300 runners

The Youngstown Road Runners Club recently sponsored its 22nd annual Mill Creek Distance Classic. Despite a couple inches of snow in the early morning, 326 runners participated in the half marathon and 152 ran the 5K.

In the half marathon, Kam Lee of Middleburg Heights was the overall winner with a time of 1:21:03.

Lee, who also won the race in 2007, defeated second-place Jonathan Bolha (Austintown) and third-place Greg Mickel (Warren).

Last year’s women’s winner, Nicole Camp (Sterling, Ohio) repeated her title with a time of 1:23:52. Elizabeth Hansen of Euclid and Jessica Gibbons of Poland finished 2-3.
