Danielle Storey and Father Edward Noga were the first recipients of St. Joseph and Immaculate Heart of Mary School’s Distinguished Alumni Award.

The new award will be given annually to two distinguished alumni with one recipient selected from St. Joseph School and one from Immaculate Heart of Mary School until such time when those honored will be SJIHM graduates.

Distinguished Alumni Award winners must exemplify respect for human dignity, live according to Catholic moral standards, practice Christian stewardship and strive for excellence in education.

Storey, from St. Joseph school, has been an example for all in living her life as a Christian. Her commitment to education continued with her earning a Bachelor of Science degree in Education from Bowling Green State University and she is currently pursuing a graduate degree at BGSU in Spanish.

The selection committee was impressed by Storey’s commitment to stewardship. Storey is frequently a steward for St. Joseph parish and SJIHM School as she returns often to help in many ways. Storey is fluent in sign language which enables her to show value for the human dignity of the hearing impaired. On many occasions, she has returned to sign the entire eighth-grade graduation mass and various ceremonies.

Noga not only lives as an example of Christian life because he is an ordained priest, but because he truly “Walks the Walk.” In every facet of his ministry, the Beatitudes are exemplified through real-life, experiences. Aside from the many duties required by his ministry, Noga reaches out into the community so that all can see the goodness of God through his actions.

Under his guidance, the parish of St. Patrick ministers to its members, as well as to residents of the Mahoning Valley by participating in community activist groups such as ACTION, creating and working the 4-H Gardens, as well as collaborating with neighboring parishes to support and maximize their efforts for the greater good.

For more than 25 years, Noga’s leadership of St. Patrick’s Church has made the parish a cornerstone in the community. The church’s efforts go beyond the Mahoning Valley. St. Patrick’s has “adopted” Our Lady of Lourdes Church, in Slidell, La., to help with rebuilding after hurricane Katrina.
