People trying to locate U.S. citizens living or traveling in Japan should contact the State Department, Offices of Overseas Citizens Services, at 1-888-407-4747.
The International Red Cross has launched a Family Links website aimed at enabling people in Japan and abroad to register the names of relatives with whom they are trying to restore contact. The website is http://www.icrc.org/familylinks.
Time Warner Cable announced Friday that all direct calls placed by its Digital Phone customers to Japan will be free through April 15, 2011. The program includes both residential and Business Class customers and will be retroactive to all calls placed Friday. Customers do not need to make any changes to their accounts in order to take advantage of the program. Calls to operators or directory assistance will continue to be charged at the usual rate.
