When Lynn Kirk PTA vice president Kim King found herself needing a fundraiser, she knew the Lynn Kirk students were sick of selling candy bars, cookies and magazines.

“Our Austintown Bounce Party is definitely a reward for all the hard work throughout the year. Now is the time to have fun and bounce it out,” King said of her Feb. 23 fundraiser.

The owners of Austintown Bounce, Bruce Shepas and Harold Porter, love to support school fundraisers because they’re part of the Falcon family themselves. “We grew up and graduated here in Austintown,” explained Shepas. “We do all we can to give back to the community. Along with today’s event, we’ve had fundraisers for school events, the Relay for Life, youth groups, and churches.”

The deal for the Lynn Kirk students was a lowered entry fee into the facility for $4, with half of the profits going to the Lynn Kirk PTA. Once inside, the kids were free to explore the inflatable structures, play games, and eat from the concession stand.

Shepas and Porter also provided 500 tickets for the grand prize in the PTA’s prize raffle, The lucky student was able to spend the prize on toys and Falcon gear sold at the facility.

The fun evening helped the PTA raise money for the third-grade farewell party that its throws at the end of the year. “We really like to send our students over to Frank Ohl Intermediate in style,” King said of the third-grade parties. “We provide school supplies, a magician, ice cream sundaes, and most of the cost goes to memory books.”

In the students’ memory books, photos from their years at Lynn Kirk are mixed with facts and thoughts from the kids on what they want to be when they grow up.

“Everything we do is just to show the kids how much they’re appreciated,” King said of the work of the PTA.
