Boardman man charged in theft of car parts
BOARDMAN
A 36-year-old township man is charged with theft, possession of criminal tools and vandalism. Police said they found Louis Marion Vari Jr. of Gardenwood Drive on McClurg Road around 4 a.m. Friday and saw that he was wearing multiple layers of clothes, carrying a flashlight and holding a child’s backpack.
A DeWalt cordless Sawzall partially hidden in the snow with only the battery visible was recovered by officers, and the footprints near it led to Vari, according to reports.
Police said they followed the footprints to Bev Road and discovered a car without its catalytic converter and tubing and pieces of the car’s exhaust cut. Vari was charged with three felonies, including felony theft because the catalytic converter’s estimated value is more than $500, reports state. Vari was taken to Mahoning County jail.
