Traditional Polish celebration will feature folk art workshops

Swieconka (shven-sonka), a Polish Easter workshop and celebration, will take place from noon to 5 p.m. March 20 at St. Joseph the Provider Church, 633 Porter Ave.
St. Joseph’s parishioners will prepare traditional Polish and ethnic foods for the buffet, which allows for a la cart selections. Krakowiaki parents will host a Polish bakery, where such foods as paczki (doughnuts), kolachi (nut rolls), babka Easter bread), and krusciki (bow-tie cookies) will be sold.
The Polish Peddler will offer wooden eggs, decorating kits, blessing basket cloths and icons.
There will be a performance by the Krakowiaki Polish folk Circle at 2 p.m. Folk art workshops and lessons will be conducted by Lawrence Kozlowski.
There also will be demonstrations and hands-on instruction in pisanki (wax-decorated eggs), palmowe tkania (palm weaving) and wycinanki (decorative paper cutting) as well as coloring contests for children and a chance to have a picture taken with a favorite Easter item.
Rounding out the festivities will be a gift basket raffle and a 50-50 raffle.
