YOUNGSTOWN
Sky’s the Limit, a new monthly music competition series at Barley’s, 21 W. Federal St., will kick off Saturday night with four of Youngstown’s best live hip-hop acts: CeeNiaL, Ky’Ly’Ntae, The Recruit and Yung Monsta. The winner — to be determined by a crowd vote — will win $100 and get to headline the following month’s showcase.
The series is the brainchild of The Higher Plane promotions, in conjunction with StarLyfe Entertainment. Music will be provided by DJ Chip Banks of StarLyfe, and the inaugural event will be headlined by Cleveland MC James John of Divine Minds. The show at the downtown club begins at 9:30 p.m. for those 18 and older. There will be a $5 cover charge.
The goal of Sky’s the Limit is to give artists an opportunity to hone their performance skills in a competitive but collaborative environment. Each month’s winner will have his music and performance footage featured on TheHigherPlane.net for one week. The website highlights trends in music, media and style.
