Conn. house fire kills 3; others hurt jumping out

NEW HAVEN, Conn. (AP) — Officials say three people died in an overnight house fire in New Haven, Conn. Eight others were injured, including some who jumped from second-floor windows to escape.

Fire Chief Michael Grant says the fire was reported just before 2 a.m. Wednesday at the multi-family home in the city’s Fair Haven section.

State arson investigators joined city firefighters at the scene. The cause hasn’t been determined.

Grant says a preliminary investigation shows the fire started in the second-floor stairwell and spread to the third floor. That’s where the three victims were found.

Grant says the eight people hospitalized include four who jumped from windows. The injuries were not considered life-threatening.

The victims’ names were not immediately released.
