Alliance YWCA to host Women’s Fiber Fest

Women’s History Month will be celebrated during the fourth annual Women’s Fiber Fest from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday at Alliance YWCA, 239 E. Market St.

The event will feature traditional skills in the use of fibers and fiber products. Spinning, weaving, quilting, knitting and crocheting demonstrations and workshops for individuals wishing to learn and increase their skill level with hands-on practice and one-on-one instructor-based opportunities.

Workshops are limited to 10 students. Some instructors will be providing kits and/or predetermined projects.

There will be workshops on buttonhole knitting, angora spinning, knitting with roving, nuno felting, double knitting and drop spindle knitting.

During the day there will be a discussion by Sew Happy Carnation Quilters of Alliance, which has donated a quilt to be raffled at 3:30 p.m. Tickets are $5 and are available at the YWCA.

Barbara Lyons will speak about the use of quilts as referenced in the book “Hidden in Plain View.”

In conjunction with the day, a vendor’s marketplace at Jupiter Studios, 346 E. Main St., will be open.
