WEST CHESTER, Ohio
A handful of anti-abortion activists rallied outside the Ohio office of House Speaker John Boehner to demand he continue fighting to keep funds for Planned Parenthood out of a spending bill now in the Senate.
The House-passed bill would trim more than $300 million for the budget year ending in September from the organization that provides abortion services. It likely faces strong resistance in the Democratic-led Senate.
The Middletown Journal reports that among those outside Boehner’s West Chester office on Monday was David Lewis of Cincinnati, who was taken into custody with others last month outside Boehner’s Washington office. He tells the newspaper, “The only way to hold his feet to the fire ... is to hold demonstrations like this one.”
Boehner spokeswoman Brittany Bramell says the congressman has made it clear he opposes spending taxpayer dollars to fund organizations such as Planned Parenthood.
