A re-imagined and grown-up version of “Red Riding Hood

A re-imagined and grown-up version of “Red Riding Hood” opens Friday in movie theaters. Here are five other recent and upcoming films that seem to confirm that Hollywood is in love with fairy tales:

• “Tangled” (aka “Rapunzel”): One of the few fairy tales (other than “Red Riding Hood”) that Disney hadn’t covered got the animated treatment last year.

• “Beastly”: Vanessa Hudgens and hunk du jour Alex Pettyfer give “Beauty and the Beast” a New York hipster update in this movie, released last week.

• “Hansel and Gretel”: Paramount is in preparation for a 3-D version to open in 2012.

• “Snow White”: Barring an attack by disgruntled dwarves, three are in the works, including “Snow White and the Huntsman” — reportedly starring Kristen Stewart, Charlize Theron and Viggo Mortensen — and “The Grimm Brothers: Snow White” starring Julia Roberts (as the Evil Queen). All are planned for next year.

• “Jack the Giant Killer”: Bryan Singer (“X-Men,” “Valkyrie”) takes on another fairy tale, in the company of Ewan McGregor. It’s due in 2012.

“Glee” (8 p.m., Fox): After earning rave reviews last November, Gwyneth Paltrow returns for another guest appearance on “Glee.” And this time there are some romantic sparks between the sex-ed teacher and Mr. Schuester (Matthew Morrison).
