Jury selection under way in Mahoning Co. murder trial

YOUNGSTOWN — Jury selection started today in the case of a man charged for his role in the city’s fifth homicide of 2010.

Darold Shorter, 43, of Melrose Avenue, is charged with murder in the death of Lamont Brown, 33, of West Earle Avenue in January 2010. The case is being tried in the courtroom of Judge Lou A. D’Apolito of Mahoning County Common Pleas Court.

Police were sent to Brown’s home in the 300 block of West Earle Avenue and found a hysterical 24-year-old woman standing outside the home holding a baby and saying her boyfriend was inside lying on the floor covered in blood.

Officers found Brown dead. He had stab wounds to his chest, neck, back and face.
