Cause of buried Nevada girl’s death investigated

ELKO, Nev. (AP) — A sheriff’s investigator says a medical examiner will determine the cause of death of a teenage Nevada girl whose body was found in a shallow grave in a remote desert area near the Utah border.

Elko County sheriff’s detective Cpl. Jim Carpenter tells the Elko Daily Free Press the body identified as 16-year-old Micaela “Mickey” Costanzo will be examined today by the Washoe County medical examiner.

West Wendover police and Elko County sheriff’s deputies are investigating after the body was found Saturday about five miles west of West Wendover. It was recovered Sunday.

Officials say Costanzo disappeared after track practice Thursday at West Wendover High School.

Her mother, Celia Costanzo, told a news conference Sunday evening that the person or persons responsible for her daughter’s death must be found.
