Iowa 67, No. 6 Purdue 65

IOWA CITY, IOWA

Jarryd Cole had 16 points and 10 rebounds in his final home game and Iowa stunned Purdue, putting the Boilermakers’ hopes for a No. 1 seed in the NCAA tournament in jeopardy and clinching the Big Ten title for top-ranked Ohio State. Bryce Cartwright and Matt Gatens each added 13 points for the Hawkeyes (11-19, 4-14), who snapped the Boilermakers’ seven-game winning streak and took down their first ranked opponent this season. Cartwright then hit a floater that bounced up and in with 31 seconds left to put the Hawkeyes ahead 65-61. Purdue’s Lewis Jackson answered with a layup, but Gatens raced down the floor and hit two game-icing free throws with 6 seconds left. JaJuan Johnson had 22 points and 12 rebounds for Purdue (25-6, 14-4), which went 5 of 25 from 3-point range and shot just 36.2 percent from the field.

Michigan 70, Michigan State 63

ANN ARBOR, MICH.

Darius Morris dribbled behind his back twice, eluding a couple of defenders near midcourt, then breezed to the basket for an easy layup to cap an emphatic victory. For the first time in a while, Michigan State is chasing Michigan in basketball. Tim Hardaway Jr. scored all 20 of his points in the second half, and the Wolverines completed a surprising sweep of their in-state rivals with a 70-63 victory Saturday. Michigan is now very much in the running for an NCAA tournament spot after winning eight of its last 11 regular-season games.

Illinois 72, Indiana 48

CHAMPAIGN, Ill.

Demetri McCamey scored 22 points and Mike Davis added 13 to lead Illinois. The win gives the Illini (19-12, 9-9 Big Ten) a .500 record in conference play and improves their resume for a spot in the NCAA tournament. It also give Illinois a first-round bye in the Big Ten tournament next week in Indianapolis. Illinois never trailed and opened up a 19-point lead at 34-15 on a McCamey layup with just over six minutes left in the first half. The lead grew to as much as 29 at 72-43 late in the second half on a bucket by reserve Joseph Bertrand. The Hoosiers (12-19, 3-15) were led by Verdell Jones’ 12. Jordan Hulls was held to four points after scoring 18 in a win over the Illini in their last meeting in January. Davis added nine rebounds.

HORIZON LEAGUE

Butler 76, Cleveland State 68

MILWAUKEE

Shawn Vanzant scored 18 points and Butler advanced to Tuesday’s Horizon League championship. Shelvin Mack scored 15 points, Matt Howard scored 14 and Andrew Smith had 12 for the Bulldogs (22-9), the tournament’s No. 2 seed. Norris Cole led all scorers with 24 points for Cleveland State (26-8).

Milwaukee 70, Valparaiso 63

MILWAUKEE

Anthony Hill scored 24 points with 10 rebounds and top-seeded Milwaukee survived a late scare in the Horizon League tournament semifinals. Kaylon Williams had 16 points and Tony Meier added 15 for the Panthers (19-12). Brandon Wood scored 24 to lead Valpo (23-11), which trailed by just four points with two minutes left but could get no closer.

MID-AMERICAN CONFERENCE

Bowling Green 73, Buffalo 63

BOWLING GREEN

Dee Brown scored 21 points and A’uston Calhoun added 16 points and 14 rebounds to lead Bowling Green in the regular-season finale for both teams.The Falcons (13-18, 8-8 Mid-American Conference) led 37-24 at halftime after holding the Bulls to just one field goal in the final 4:19 of the opening half and 8-of-26 shooting (30.8 percent) overall.

Eastern Michigan 69, Toledo 50

MT. PLEASANT, MICH.

Brandon Bowdry scored 27 points as Eastern Michigan closed out the regular season. Bowdry also had 10 rebounds, six assists and three steals as the Eagles (9-21, 5-11 Mid-American) snapped a three-game losing streak and finished as the No. 11 seed for the conference tournament.

Ball State 67, N. Illinois 57

MUNCIE, IND.

Jesse Berry scored 17 points as Ball State claimed the No. 4 seed and a first-round bye in next week’s Mid-American Conference tournament. Jauwan Scaife added 16 points and Jarrod Jones had 15 for the Cardinals (18-12, 10-6), who grabbed an early 15-4 advantage and led by double digits the rest of the way.

Western Michigan 81, Central Michigan 68

YPSILANTI, MICH.

Western Michigan clinched the outright Mid-American West title and a No. 2 seed in the conference tournament.
