MCBDD seeks to fill vacant position
Staff report
AUSTINTOWN
Applications are being sought to fill a vacant position on the Board of Directors of the Mahoning County Board of Developmental Disabilities created by the resignation of Tim Wolfgang in December.
The person appointed would serve the remainder of Wolfgang’s four-year term, which expires Dec. 31, 2012, and would be eligible for re-appointment to a new four-year term. Board members can serve up to three four-year terms, said Larry Duck, MCBDD superintendent.
The MCDD Board has seven members, five appointed by the Mahoning County Board of Commissioners and two by a Mahoning County Probate Court judge. Appointments should reflect, to the extent possible, the composition of the county, Duck said.
At least two of the five appointments made by the county commissioners must be family members of an eligible MCBDD client, one who is school age and one who is eligible for adult services. Wolfgang’s replacement will be filled by county commissioners.
Qualifications to serve on the Board of Developmental Disabilities include: Mahoning County residency; citizen of the United States; demonstrated interest in and knowledge of the field of developmental disabilities; professional training or experience in business management, finance, health care, personnel administration or government service.
County developmental disability boards must have at least 10 meetings per year. All board members must receive four hours of training per year, and new board members must sign a declaration form that affirms that they are not in violation of any of the categories that would exclude them from board appointment, Duck said.
The superintendent said persons who cannot be appointed to the MCBDD include: most elected officials; an immediate family member of another board member; an employee of the MCDD Board or an immediate family member of an employee of the MCBDD; former employees of the MCBDD with less than one year of separation from employee status; an individual whose immediate family member is an employee or board member of an agency licensed or certified by Ohio Department of Developmental Disabilities to provide services to individuals with developmental disabilities unless there is no conflict of interest; and an immediate family member of a Mahoning County commissioner.
People interested in the vacant position should send a letter stating their interest and qualifications to: John A. McNally IV, president of the Mahoning County Board of Commissioners, Mahoning County Administration Building, 21 W. Boardman St., Suite 200, Youngstown, OH 44503.
