Woman indicted in restaurant theft

YOUNGSTOWN

A Mahoning County grand jury has indicted Kimberly Hladun, 43, Duck Creek Road, Berlin Center, on a charge of grand theft from Nicolinni’s Ristorante in Boardman.

Boardman police arrested Hladun on Jan. 13 after a nearly nine-month investigation. She is accused of stealing more than $50,000 from her employer, the business at 1247 Boardman-Poland Road. Nicolinni’s also has a location in Austintown.

The restaurant’s owner, Patrick Lavanty, said he would like to see Hladun prosecuted to the “furthest extent of the law.”

“With her being as close to us, my family and myself, I guess I have a lot of anger and disappointment toward her,” he said.

Lavanty said Hladun worked with him for 15 years.

“We may never recover any of those funds. ... People couldn’t get raises at either restaurant. One person really hurts the rest of the business,” he said.

Hladun remains free on $8,000 bond.
