Squirt hockey team loses three

The Youngstown Phantoms Squirt team played three games Feb. 18-20 when they entered the “Melt The Ice” tournament at Garfield Heights. The Phantoms competed in the A1 division which consists of top A level teams.

The Phantoms never got going on offense and fell in the opening game 2-1 to Cleveland Skating Club. Scoring for Youngstown was Bo Gray of Boardman.

In the second game, the Phantoms played to a 2-2 tie against the Freedonia Steelers. Devin Whitaker (Boardman) scored both goals.

In the final game, the Phantoms were defeated by No. 1 seed Garfield Heights, 2-0.

Nick Beck (Boardman) was the goalle in all three games.

Curbstone HOF class comprises 16

The 2011 Curbstone Coaches Hall of Fame banquet is May 1 with 16 new members set to be enshrined during ceremonies at Mr. Anthony’s in Boardman. Mount Union football coach Larry Kehres, will be guest speaker.

The 2011 class includes: William H. Beach (posthumous/bowling), Mike Cochran (football), Monte Duncan (baseball), Matt Giambattista (baseball/coach), Richard Hartzell (bowling), Denny Kiliany (football), Carol Kozbial (bowling), Jim Lee (baseball), Paul McFadden (football), Jerry McGee (golf), Brian Meenachan (all-sports award), Bob O’Leary (contribution to sports), Ed O’Neill (football), Almos “Ozzie” O’Neal, Jr. (boxing), Dr. Jon Saadey (football) and Jeff Wilkins (football).
