Lloyd students and their dads used the PTA’s second annual Dad’s Night on Feb. 8 as an opportunity to work together to create a bug-catcher craft.

Lloyd PTA president Lynn Mickey began the event when she became the school’s PTA leader last year.

“I began Dad’s night after finding how hard it is for some dads to visit our PTA events in the daytime,” Mickey explained. “Although our name for the event is “Dad’s Night,’ we welcome any men important in our students’ lives whether they are grandfathers, step-dads or mentors.”

The event offered dinner and beverages, but the focus of Dad’s Night was the teamwork the students and their family members fostered by working together on a bug catcher project.

“The hands-on work and the common goal create a togetherness, and that’s what we’re hoping to accomplish tonight,” explained Mickey.

Talking to the hard-working teams during the event seemed to support the PTA’s goal.

Dad Dwayne Lombard attended the event with his second-grader, Hunter Lombard, and kindergartner Chase Lombard.

“Hunter and I came to the first Dad’s night last year and we made a birdhouse together. I was excited to bring Chase and share this experience with him. All of us are planning to catch some lightning bugs and dragonflies with our bug catcher this summer,” Lombard said.

Ron Giovannone and his son, Armand, are aiming to catch red ants and grasshoppers when the weather warms.

Victoria Jordan was focused on the time she spent with her family. “

My favorite part of the project was being able to work with my dad,” she said during the event.
