Hubbard girls second at state bowling tournament

The Hubbard High girls bowling team finished as state runner-up on Friday.
The Eagles advanced to the championship match at Wayne Webb’s Columbus Bowl, losing to St. Mary’s Memorial, 634-628.
Hubbard began the bracket portion of the tournament as the No. 3 seed after rolling a 3329 in three games and three Baker games.
Austintown Fitch, the No. 6 seed with 3246 pins, was defeated by Hubbard, 767-632, in the first round of the bracket tournament.
Hubbard then defeated Westerville Central in the semifinals.
Boardman was also competing as a team, but the Spartans’ qualifying round total of 2954 pins put them in 13th place. Only the top eight teams advanced to the championship round.
In qualifying, the top local bowler was Marletta Gallo of Fitch, with a three-game score of 595. Katie Viglio was next with 568, followed by Daria Harris (534) , Delorean Jones (520) and Vickie Berquist (512).
Hubbard was led by Samantha Dudley with 589 and Amanda Wess with 567. Brittany Ferrara rolled a 557, Mia Brown a 496 and Yvonne Force a 491.
Boardman’s scorers were Tiffany Terlecki (543), Tiffany Dugan (534), Lindsey Dugan (467), Tiffany Heffron (436) and Becca Babnic (364).
Liberty’s Marissa Simon tolled a 528 as an individual qualifier.
