Girls track team begins indoor season


The Boardman girls’ indoor track and field team opened the indoor season with meet at Mount Union Feb. 6 and at Kent State on Feb. 20.

At Mount Union, senior hurdler Nicole Vlad had the highest finish of the day, placing fourth in the 55-meter high hurdles with a time of 9.68. The 4x800 meter relay team placed sixth in the meet with a time of 12:00.95 and consisted of sophomores Audrey Keleman and Daisy Corso and seniors Chelsea Dunn and Katie Heney.

In the 1600-meter run, Heney came back after the relay to run 5:52.18 and placed seventh. She later took ninth in the 800 meters with a time of 2:43.

Senior pole vaulter Shelby Dofka and sophomore Sarina Mauerman both vaulted 6-6 to tie for seventh place. Senior sprinter Carissa Plourde ran 70.20 in the 400-meter dash to finish ninth and also jumped 13-8 to place ninth in the long jump.

Dunn ran the 400 in 79.32, freshman Taylor Romeo jumped 11-8, Corso ran 6:22.65 and sophomore Kaitlyn Emery ran 7:07.25 in the mile.

In the 55-meter dash, Vlad ran 7.88, junior Lesley Koch ran 7.91 and Plourde ran 8.56.

For their second meet of the season, 16 girls traveled to Kent State Feb. 20.

The highest finish for the team was the 4x800 meter relay, running a season-best time of 10:34.58. Team members were freshman Sydni Ogilvie, junior Tori Moore and seniors Carissa Plourde and Katie Heney.

Sophomores Daisy Corso, Kaitlyn Emery, Toni Triglia and senior Chelsea Dunn ran 11:44.6 in Boardman’s second entry into this event.

Heney came placed ninth in the 3200-meter run with a time of 12:02.9. Moore ran a run 2:32.93 to take 11th in the 800 meters. Vlad made it to the finals in the 60-meter high hurdles and ran 10.11 in the finals to finish 13th overall.

In the 60-meter dash, Lesley Koch ran 8.57, sophomore SueJude Hamdan ran 9.25 and Taylor Romeo ran 9.41. In the 200-meter dash, Vlad led the team with 28.71, followed by Koch at 28.83, Plourde at 29.87, sophomore Christina Claybrook at 30.2, Romeo at 32.06 and Hamdan at 32.23.

In the 400, Plourde ran her season-best time of 66.87, while Kaitlyn Emery had a season-best time in the mile of 6:37.31 and freshman Anya Bolger ran 7:16.83.

Shelby Dofka had a season-best indoor performance of 6-9 in the pole vault and Romeo a personal-best indoor of 12-4 in the long jump.

In the 800, Sydni Ogilvie ran 2:40.88, Toni Triglia ran 2:55.09, Daisy Corso ran 2:57.18 and Chelsea Dunn ran 3:01.13.
