Pa. college president praises protesters
CARLISLE, Pa. (AP) — The president of Dickinson College is applauding student protesters who staged a sit-in at the administration building to protest the slow pace of changes in the college’s sexual offense policy.
William Durden compared the student activists today to the American revolutionary leaders who founded the college in Carlisle in 1773. He told The Associated Press that protest leaders are working with the administration on ways to address their concerns, along with the problems of alcohol abuse and incivility.
On Wednesday, about 250 students marched and staged a sit-in to demand more transparent policies on sexual violence. Some 100 spent the night in the building known as Old West.
Durden agreed to a demand that the college alert students whenever a rape is reported, but declined to discuss other details.
