City council mulls ordinance to help V&M supplier move
YOUNGSTOWN
City council will consider legislation today to help facilitate the relocation of a V&M Star supplier to an East Side business park.
The ordinance would have council authorize the board of control to sign a contract for $540,000 to purchase about 45 acres of land at the Ross Industrial Park for Metalico Youngstown to move from its location on V&M property.
V&M, which is building a $650 million expansion project, needs the space currently occupied by Metalico for that expansion, said city Finance Director David Bozanich.
V&M II, a subsidiary of V&M Star, will reimburse the city for the Metalico move, Bozanich said.
Metalico supplies scrap metal used by V&M, which makes seamless steel tubes for the gas and oil industry.
Ross Industrial Park is owned by Ross Park Limited Partnership, a subsidiary of the Cafaro Co.
Also on today’s agenda, council is being asked to authorize the board of control to accept 18.3 acres and $280,000 from Ross Park Limited.
A business similar to Metalico would be located there, Bozanich said.
“It’s a good gesture from the Cafaro Co. to the city” to provide the additional acreage and the money, he said.
Also today, council is being asked to provide up to $200,000 for water and wastewater utility costs to the Mahoning Valley Historical Society, which is planning to move to 125 W. Federal St.
Council pulled legislation two weeks ago to give $200,000 to the society without giving specifics as to where the money would go.
