Warren hires Thomas as schools superintendent

WARREN

The Board of Education of Warren City Schools approved a three-year contract Thursday that pays Dr. Bruce Thomas $110,000 per year to be Warren’s next superintendent.

Thomas, who is superintendent of Marietta City Schools, will official start his duties in Warren Aug. 1 but says he will start sooner than that.

Thomas, who worked in Marietta one year and was an assistant superintendent for the Cleveland Metropolitan School District one year, is relatively new to being the top official in a school district.

For 19 years of his 31 years in education, Thomas, 54, worked in the South Euclid-Lyndhurst school district near Cleveland — in counseling, career intervention and alternative education. He also worked six years as counselor and three as school improvement coordinator for the Ohio Department of Education.

Though Thomas said he went to Marietta to become a superintendent for the first time, he believes his training and education will suit him better in a more urban area like Warren.
