Ikebana club highlights Japanese floral designs
YOUNGSTOWN
Ikebana Youngstown presented its yearly exhibit of Japanese floral design June 4 and 5 at the Davis Center at Fellows Riverside Gardens in Mill Creek Park.
The five featured designs were from five schools of Ikebana: Ikenobo, Chiko, Ohara, Sogetsu and Ichiyo. The exhibits were for viewing only and were not judged. They are placed in front of Shoji screens.
The designs were made by the following Ikebana Youngstown members: Sheila Bowman, Dan Burns, Kaaren Cabraja, Susie Cochran, Elsie DeHoff, Marian Franzen, Dorothy Haddox, Pearl Marlos, Dianna Mullins, Beverly Patrick, Arline Sekely, Colleen Smith, Eleanor Steffens and Linda Vuletich.
The group also hosted a tea, for which nine members from North Canton Ikebana Chapter 54 were guests.
Ikebana Youngstown is a member of the Garden Forum of the Greater Youngstown Area Inc. Members meet on the first Tuesday of most months at the Davis Center.
Officers are Mullins, president; Marlos, vice president; Esther Bertch, recording and corresponding secretary; and Patrick, treasurer. The chapter’s Ichiyo instructor is Shirley Winkler from Saxonburg, Pa., who teaches three times a year.
