Philly cops kill man during gas station shootout

PHILADELPHIA (AP) — Police say a man seen shooting at another man at a North Philadelphia gas station was shot and killed by an officer.

Police Chief Inspector Scott Small says officers were on patrol near a Hess gas station in the Fairhill section of the city at about 11 p.m. Monday when they saw a man on a dirt bike shooting at another man.

Small says officers ordered the shooter to drop his revolver, and when he did not comply, an officer fired, hitting the man twice in the torso. He was pronounced dead at Temple University Hospital about two hours later.

Police have been interviewing the other man, who was uninjured.

The police internal affairs and homicide units are investigating and the officer has been placed on modified duty.
