Pa. governor links budget to other policy goals
HARRISBURG, Pa. (AP) — Pennsylvania Gov. Tom Corbett says a bill to limit school board property tax increases is “crucial” to the state budget currently under consideration in the Legislature.
The Republican governor made the comments today during a news conference in the Capitol Rotunda, hours before the state Senate was expected to vote on a $27.15 billion spending plan for the fiscal year starting Friday.
Corbett says until he gets a budget he can sign, “there is no budget.”
He also says his staff has been working behind the scenes on proposals to give parents greater choice in where their children are educated.
Republicans are pressing for widespread cuts in an effort to avoid raising taxes while coping with a fall-off in state tax revenues and the disappearance of temporary federal budget aid.
