Butterfly garden
Butterfly garden
NORTH LIMA
There’s a new butterfly garden at Common Ground Church Community, 2310 W. South Range Road (Route 165), Beaver Township. It will be dedicated at 7 p.m. today.
Goodness Grows is a faith-based food and farming nonprofit venture cultivated by Common Ground in 2007. The site is the former Mellinger’s Nursery and Greenhouse.
Students from Kathleen Kromer’s class from Columbiana Educational Service Center, who researched plants appropriate for the garden, readied the site and planted flowers and herbs, will attend the dedication. There also will be a nature hike.
Building to be fixed
YOUNGSTOWN
A contractor will soon examine and repair the overhanging corner of the entablature atop the main entrance colonnade to Amedia Plaza, from which a 40-pound chunk of concrete fell about 20 feet to the sidewalk Saturday, said Clifford Scott, executive director of the Youngstown Metropolitan Housing Authority.
No one was injured when the chunk fell from the former Pick-Ohio Hotel at 131 W. Boardman St., a high-rise for elderly and disabled people and YMHA headquarters. The sidewalk is cordoned off below the spot from which the concrete fell, and Scott said he hopes the repair is made in the next two days.

A 23-year-old Union Street Southwest man was hit by gunfire at 3:09 a.m. Saturday after a fight at the Sunoco gas station, 805 W. Market St.
Police were called to the address for a fight and learned that someone had been hit by gunfire and gone to ValleyCare Trumbull Memorial Hospital.
The victim later told police the gunshots were the result of a fight he was having with another man.
The victim was indicted by a Trumbull County grand jury earlier this month on a drug-possession charge.
