Repairs to be made to downtown high-rise after concrete falls

YOUNGSTOWN — A contractor will soon examine and repair the overhanging corner of the entablature atop the main entrance colonnade to Amedia Plaza, from which a 40-pound chunk of concrete fell about 20 feet to the sidewalk late Saturday afternoon, said Clifford Scott, executive director of the Youngstown Metropolitan Housing Authority.

No one was injured when the chunk fell from the former Pick-Ohio hotel at 131 W. Boardman St., which is now a high-rise for elderly and disabled people and YMHA headquarters. The sidewalk remains cordoned off below the spot from which the concrete fell, and Scott said he hopes the repair can be made in the next two days.
