Apartments use DNA to nab poop-scoop scofflaws

LEBANON, N.H.

Here’s the scoop: Some apartment complexes are using DNA testing on dog doo to find out who’s not cleaning up after their pets.

The Timberwood Commons in Lebanon, N.H., opened this year and already has had problems with some residents who aren’t cleaning up messes their dogs leave.

So manager Debbie Violette is going to use commercially available DNA sampling kits to check the DNA that dogs leave behind when they go.

“We’ve tried doing the warning letters. We’ve tried all sorts of things,” she said. “It’s always a problem. It’s just that the majority of people are responsible pet owners, and there are a few who are not.”

Ohio bicycling enthusiasts wed amid group event

CLEVELAND

An Ohio couple who share a love for bicycling have been married amid a crowd of fellow cyclists and their bikes.

Television stations WEWS and WKYC reported that graphic designer Amy Hawk and artist Bob Peck wed Friday evening at Cleveland’s Public Square before a monthly group bicycle ride downtown.

Peck wore a T-shirt with a tuxedo design, Hawk wore a white dress, and both wore sneakers. Cyclists attending the ceremony rang bicycle bells in celebration as the ceremony ended.

Afterward, the pair hopped on their bikes to join relatives and friends as part of the group ride.

They plan to honeymoon in North Carolina and promised they’d be taking their bicycles along with them.
