Chris Brown gets 2 BET awards

LOS ANGELES

Chris Brown made good on two of his six nominations during the first hour of Sunday’s BET Awards.

The 21-year-old singer and the night’s leading nominee won early awards for best male R&B artist and best collaboration for his song “Look At Me Now” with Lil Wayne and Busta Rhymes.

Brown accepted the collaboration award after performing a medley that including the winning track.

Steve Harvey was recognized for his humanitarian work at the BET Awards.

BET Chairman and Chief Executive Debra Lee called the 54-year-old entertainer “a true gentleman who acts like a comedian but thinks like a citizen of the world” as she presented him with the Humanitarian Award.

Harvey thanked God and his fellow philanthropists as he accepted the honor.

Patti LaBelle also accepted a special honor at Sunday’s ceremony: Gladys Knight presented her with the Lifetime Achievement Award.

‘Cars 2’ keeps Pixar in driver’s seat with $68M

Pixar Animation remains undefeated at the box-office races.

The Disney unit’s animated sequel “Cars 2” cruised to a No. 1 finish with a $68 million opening weekend, according to studio estimates Sunday. That makes 12 wins in a row for Pixar since the company’s first feature film, 1995’s “Toy Story.”

“Cars 2” added $42.9 million in 18 overseas markets, giving it a worldwide total of $110.9 million.

Domestically, “Cars 2” nearly matched the $68.1 million debut of Disney-Pixar’s “Up” two years ago.
