Event set for this week at green in McDonald

The 78th annual McDonald Homecoming will be Wednesday through Saturday on the village green across from the Municipal Building, 451 Ohio Ave.

The annual parade will start at 6 p.m. Wednesday at the top of Ohio Avenue, and The Performing Arts Center will present a dance show after the parade on the basketball courts.

Rides by Brown Amusements and concessions will be available on the green from 6 to 11 p.m.

Bingo will be from 7 to 11 p.m. in the Ramsey Pavilion.

The 10th annual Run of the Mill one-mile footrace will precede the parade, starting at 5:45 p.m. at Holiday Hot Tubs, Marshall Road at Ohio Avenue, and proceeding down Ohio Avenue to finish through the gates of McDonald Steel. Awards will be given out immediately after the parade at Holiday Hot Tubs. The run benefits the McDonald boys’ and girls’ cross country teams.

The Thursday homecoming schedule will include Wristband Night for which tickets can be purchased at the ticket booth for one price to ride all evening. Rides and concessions will be open from 6 to 11 p.m. and bingo will be played from 7 to 11 p.m.

Events on Saturday will start with the traditional games at 10 a.m.

Games for the morning will include: age infant to 4, candy and penny scramble; age 5 to 6, whipped cream races; age 7 to 8, shoe scramble; age 9 to 10, paper-plate race; age 11 to 12, watermelon-eating contest: age 13 to 14, water-balloon toss; and age 15 and over, egg toss, including a parent and child egg toss.

Immediately after the games, free ice cream will be provided by the Fire Department Social Organization.

The winners of the John Pete checker tournament will be announced at the annual pancake breakfast, which is only for McDonald residents, Saturday morning. Tickets for a 50-50 raffle will be sold at the breakfast by the McDonald Fire Auxiliary.

Other events for Saturday will include: rides and concessions from 6 to 11 p.m.; bingo from 7 to 11 p.m. and fireworks at 11 p.m.

No pets or bicycles are permitted on the festival grounds.
