On May 27, St. Christine School looked a lot different than it normally does. Each grade was dressed in colored shirts instead of their usual school uniform, the gym was filled with bouncy castles and the school was decorated with sombreros and bright colors.

For its annual school picnic, the Home and School Association transformed St. Christine’s into a fun fiesta for the day. The school was abuzz with activity during the day-long celebration, with activities at every corner of the school.

The dining hall was transformed into an all-day dance-a-thon, with a DJ providing tunes for a celebration in every grade. The gymnasium was taken over by a giant bouncy slide and obstacle course and the nearby cafeteria offered tacos and nachos to any students needing to refuel.

However, most of the activity took place outside in the school’s adjacent parking lot, where Home and School offered fiesta games and manned the snow cone machine.

Erin Bishop, secretary of the Home and School Association, helped plan the event and helped keep watch on the fun.

“We have students from kindergarten to eighth grade here at St. Christine’s, so we worked hard to find events that all ages would like,” Bishop explained. “Although, I’m surprised how much both ages really love the same things. Some fun is just universal.”

In the outside activity area, the kids enjoyed fiesta tic-tac-toe, limbo, cactus ring toss, jumping bean sack races and a water balloon toss that usually ended with wet results.

Catching her breath after a tug of war game, kindergartner Ashley Fabry fell to the grass and managed to sum up the fiesta well.

“Today has been the best day ever,” she exclaimed.
